Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2013 Couture

Another of my favourites from Couture Fashion Week was Maison Martin Margiela. It's so beautifully eclectic with rich embroidered silks and floral velvet embossed chiffons. I love the layering of mid length skirts over silk trousers and the slap-dash painted platforms. The second of Margiela's couture collections, it is primarily up-cycled as was the first. A far cry from the relentless, perfection exhibited in the Valentino collection, however, the result is the same, beautifully crafted garments that show everybody how it's done.

This piece is rather unbelievably made from thousands of metallic sweet wrappers embroidered onto pongee silk. The candy "fur" took 70 hours to make.
